US Customary System
The US uses a different system of measurement called the US customary system. The table below shows the US customary units and its Metric equivalents. The US Customary system and the English Imperial system both derive from the earlier English systems used in the Middle Ages. Having this heritage the two are similar but there are a few differences.
The US Customary system was based off the English systems of the 18th century but the Imperial system was defined in 1824, after American Independence.
